There is much to enjoy about spring in the Pacific Northwest, even amid the constant rain. Suddenly the world around us is a riot of color. The few sun breaks instantly lift our moods. And there are still a few glorious months left in the concert season. Below, evening announcer Sean MacLean shares his favorite springtime pieces.

"The Rite of Spring" at its premiere was monumental, a game-changer for music. And 100 years later, it still is. I love the music because it's as violent as a Russian spring, the earth being heaved aside by desperate heliotropes.

This piece embodies spring, especially in this recording with violin soloist Rodney Friend, who sounds like his name.  This is the other kind of spring, slow to arrive, bringing grace to our surroundings and restoring our faith in humanity.
