Over a 25-year pilgrimage of celebration, Puget Sound Revels has taken its audiences to kingdoms and villages from Appalachia to Karalia, Scotland to Italy. For our silver anniversary, we pilgrimage together (at the Rialto Theater) on the Camino de Santiago – the pilgrimage path established in the 9th century that runs from the Pyrenees to the medieval cathedral town of Santiago de Compostela.
Joining the Revels Adult and Children’s Choruses are actors Todd Jefferson Moore and Bill Johns, and The Seattle Brass Ensemble. Over centuries, the camino has inspired many tunes and songs. Playing a wide variety of instruments including the gaita (Galician bagpipe), folk instrumentalists Kevin Carr, Pat O’Scannell, Kendra McLean, Jacob Breedlove, and Denali Williams will help bring such tunes and songs to life again. Don’t be surprised to detect a Scots or Irish sound in the show. As with Brittany in France, a Celtic past is part of Galicia’s heritage. As always, it will be beautiful, funny, joyous; a feast for the eyes and ears; a celebration for family and friends – the perfect December gathering.
The Christmas Revels® is a lively concoction of folk tradition and high art that blends adults and children, amateurs and professionals, audience and players and truly does include dancing in the aisles. Full of humor and beauty, it plays each year to sell-out audiences of all ages from all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
