KING FM Seattle Opera Channel
All things Opera - only a mouseclick away! The KING-FM Seattle Opera Channel is a year-round joint collaboration between 98.1 Classical KING-FM and Seattle Opera. Each of these five-hour, on-demand programs features a full-length opera performance, as well as segments about prominent artists and insights into the world of opera. We'll also offer previews of upcoming Seattle Opera productions on a continuing basis throughout the year. KING-FM's midday announcer and opera aficionado, Steve Reeder, serves as host.
On our current KING-FM Seattle Opera program:
A complete performance of "Katja Kabanova" by Leos Janacek, from a 1976 recording that features soprano Elisabeth Soderstrom as the title character and Sir Charles Mackerras as the conductor
A "Beyond the Opera" segment that focuses on other, earlier operatic composers within the Czech-speaking world, such as Dvorak and Smetana
A samplinig of the artistry of the Moravian-Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozena and the Slovak-born soprano Edita Gruberova, as they sing eighteenth-century repertoire (Gluck, Mozart, Myslivecek)
Another installment of our recurring "Opera A to Z" feature, with "Impressario" as our subject
